We don’t need market research any more (apparently)
We have AI to solve all our research questions now
It takes milliseconds to get an answer, it’s free to use and no one ever needs to leave the comfort of their laptop again
We all need to do more with less these days, it sounds like the magical answer to our research questions
Do we even need market research, or market researchers anymore?
Personally, I have a (slight) obsession with ChatCPG. I think it has saved be around 20 hours of desk research in the last 5 days alone
For me, it has been like an automated Fairy Godmother granting my every wish
So I decided to ask my ever-helpful Fairy Friend CHATPGT to tell me what it thought
Q What are the drawbacks of using CHATGPT for market research?
- Limited data sources: ChatGPT’s responses are only as good as the data it has been trained on. If the model has not been exposed to a wide range of data related to your industry or market, it may not be able to provide accurate or complete information.
YIKES …..SO IF WE RELY ON CHAT GPT WE ARE RELYING ON DATA THAT IS PUBLICALLY AVAILABLE, THAT ANYONE ELSE CAN FIND, AND IT MIGHT NOT EVEN BE RELEVANT
- Lack of context: AI language models like ChatGPT are not able to fully understand the nuances and context of human conversation, which can be especially important in market research. They may provide answers that are technically correct but miss the underlying meaning or sentiment of the respondent.
YIKES ……NO EMOTIONAL OVERLAY, CONTEXT, NO NUANCES AND A LACK OF MEANING. THIS DOESN’T SOUND LIKE A FERTILE PLACE FOR IDEAS TO GERMINATE
- Inability to perform physical research: ChatGPT can provide insights based on text-based data, but it is not able to conduct physical research such as surveys, focus groups, or observational studies.
YET….
- Potential biases: AI models like ChatGPT can inherit biases from the data they were trained on, which can lead to inaccurate or unfair results. It’s important to be aware of this and take steps to mitigate any potential biases.
YIKES…….THIS ONE SOUNDS REALLY BAD
- Overall, ChatGPT can be a useful tool for market research, but it should be used in conjunction with other research methods and human expertise to ensure that the insights gathered are accurate and meaningful.
SEE …. EVEN CHAT GPT THINKS WE NEED MARKET RESEARCHERS
PHEW
IS CHAT GPT A FAIRY GODMOTHER?
